85th Academy Awards - List Of Winners

Last night the stars of Hollywood rolled out for the 85th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. There were few surprises in the top categories with Daniel Day Lewis and Jennifer Lawrence bagging Best Actor and Actress respectively; but it was nice to see Ben Affleck's Argo win Best Picture.

Last night was the Brit Awards over in London. The celebration of the best of UK music was held at the popular O2 areana, and saw Emeli Sandé coming out tops with two awards. Performances included Justin Timberlake, Robbie Williams, One Direction, and more.

On the other side of the pond the 2013 EE Bafta Awards took place at London's Royal Opera House. Big winners included Ben Affleck for Best Director, Argo for Best film, and as expected Daniel Day Lewis and Anne Hathaway for Lincoln and Les Miserables respectively.

Last night was the star-studded 2013 Grammy Awards. Highlights included Gotye bagging three awards including Record of the year, Drake winning his first Grammy, and of course all the performances, particularly the Bob Marley tribute.

Movie Geek - 2012 Academy Awards Winners

Last night, the Hollywood crowd gathered at the Kodak Theatre in LA for the 84th Academy Awards show.

The Artist went home with Best Picture and Best Director awards; with Jean Dujardin receiving the award for Best Actor for the film. Meryl Streep finally got her third Oscar (no surprise there), while Octavia Spencer also nabbed an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Help. Hugo, which I still haven't seen, went home with a number of non-acting awards.

Music Geek - 2012 BRIT Awards Winners

Yesterday was the 2012 BRIT Awards show over in London. We saw Adele and Ed Sheeran coming out tops with two awards each. SOD sweethearts Emeli Sande and Lana Del Rey both went home with the Critics’ Choice and International Breakthrough Act awards respectively. There were performances from Sheeran, Adele, Rihanna, and Coldplay, among others.

Adele also flipped the middle finger at the 'suits' when she was cut off in the middle of her acceptance speech. Lol.

Movie Geek - 84th Academy Awards Nominations

The nominations for the 84th Academy Awards were just read out moments ago . Coming out tops are Hugo with 11 nominations and The Artist with ten (Hmm I need to check Hugo out). Warhorse, Moneyball, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, got six noms each, while The Descendants was nominated for five awards.

No surprise at the George Clooney, Brad pitt, Meryl Streep, and Glenn Close noms; and glad to see the ladies from The Help getting recognised. Quite surprised with some notable snubs - Drive, Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Shame, Tintin.

The ceremony takes place on February 26 at the Kodak Theatre in LA. Check out the full list of nominations after the cut.

Movie Geek: 2012 Golden Globe Awards Winners

The 2012 Golden Globe Awards show took place last night in Hollywood. Apparently the ceremony wasn't too exciting, and Ricky Gervais was on his best behaviour...most of the time.

Meryl Street went home with the Best Actress In A Drama gong, no surprise there. A tad surprising was The Descendants taking Best Drama over the likes of The Help and Moneyball.

Great to see Homeland and Claire Danes being recognised for the superb series; Damian Lewis was robbed though. Yay! for Idris Elba, Peter Dinklage, and Octavia Spencer.
