Its that time of the week again.
In my opinion music and film/tv go hand in hand. It strengthens the emotion and message behind a scene (see Grey's Anatomy for example). I really appreciate the effort film and tv show makers put into musical arrangements in their shows. It also helps me discover new songs and artists like i've mentioned before.
Theme songs are a big part of TV shows as they create immediate identification for viewers, and most times convey the tone of the show. We have fewer shows with theme songs these days, with shows cutting right to the start. To be honest sometimes i find some intros tedious as they seem to go on forever (looking at you Homeland), but sometimes I come across theme songs that I don't mind hearing every single time. As expected I go to my good friend Google to find out who and what the songs are. Thank God for the internet!
Anyways, after the cut you'll find six of my favourite theme songs from current shows. I have gone with themes with actual songs by artists. I've also put the full songs so you can hear them in their entirety.
What are your favourite theme songs?
1. How To Make It In America - I Need A Dollar by Aloe Blacc
This song totally captures the theme of the show. How To Make It In America follows two enterprising friends as they try to succeed in the fashion world in New York, among other things. The theme song is by relatively fresh on

2. Luther - Paradise Circus by Massive Attack
Now I first heard this on True Blood (ep. 4, season 3). The intoxicating tone and subject matter went very well with the scene(Bill is in a strip club. Talk about playing with your dinner.). I copped the Massive Attack track and made it my ring tone. Down the line to my amazement I kept being told I had the Luther theme song. I finally watched Luther and I must say its also a great fit with its dark undertones.

3. Damages - When I am Through With You by The Vla
Perfect vindictive song for a vindictive show. "When I am through with you, there won't be anything left". Gosh!

4. True Blood - Bad Things by Jace Everett
Put this with those creepy and shocking intro visuals, and you have one rocking wild opening to a naughty show.

5.Misfits - Echoes by The Rapture
Edgy rock stuff for the intro to oddball show Misfits. I love the rough guitar riff.

6. Friday Night Lights
Ok yeah this isn't a song song but its awesome. All 46 seconds of it. I dunno but I feel it captures the sentiments of the show. "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!"
To be honest I love/loved all the emo instrumental music on Friday Night Lights. The music director really knew how to intensify the emotion of scenes.
The Theme is an original piece for the show, performed by Texas band Explosions In The Sky and composed by Snuffy Walden.
