TV Geek - In Memoriam: Shows We Lost in 2011

As the year draws to a close TV.com takes a look at the shows we lost with this In Memoriam video.

Wow so many shows got cancelled this year! Theres quite a number that i never even started watching. Seeing some shows on this was a shock and made me sad. Lol at a TV show's cancellation making me sad. Oh well we'll always have reruns and DVD box sets.

Apparently Bored To Death, How To Make It In America, and Hung join the list with their cancellations coming after the making of this video.

I'll miss those three shows, Smallville, Friday Night Lights, The Closer, Entourage, Brothers and Sisters, Greek, Medium, Big Love, United States Of Tara, and more, even though I had actually stopped watching some of them seasons ago.

Spotlight - Etta Bond

Wretch 32's Forgiveness was one of my top songs of 2011. It had an angsty tone, passionate lyrics from Wretch, great production from Labrinth, and a beautiful powerful chorus by Etta Bond. It was quite an introduction to the young Cambridge native.

Ms. Bond is the first signing to UK producer, singer, and song writer, Labrinth‘s Odd Child Imprint label. Her collaboration with Wretch 32 is giving her some good exposure and buzz, and it sure isn't going to waste. Her solo output, although limited at the moment, shows a soulful powerhouse, lacing her voice over dubstep and electronic beats. To be honest I prefer her when she strips a song down and we can focus on her vocals. I love love love her acoustic rendition of Forgiveness, and I think it should be made available on audio. Check it out below (She starts singing at the 58 sec mark).

After the cut you can also check out her rendition of Ed Sheeran's stellar Lego House, mashing it with the Arctic Monkeys' Old Yellow Bricks. Both videos are courtsey of Soulculture, who had a special session with her and Labrinth. Watching the videos you get the sense that singing comes effortlessly to Etta.

I guess we should expect to hear more from Etta Bond in 2012.

Props to Soulculture.

I kinda pictured this video going a different way, but this is still some interesting visuals. For the video to her latest single You Da One, Rihanna dons some blonde hair, goes all 'Clockwork Orange', wilds out, and drops some sultry moves;...and that can't be a bad thing can it?

Mixtape - Tinie Tempah: Happy Birthday

Coming Soon: Prometheus

Finally we get a trailer for Prometheus...that tells us absolutely nothing! Still great to see some cool visuals. Looks like this movie will be some hot stuff. I guess we can assume that this is Ridley Scott's prequel to the Alien movies as rumoured, yes/no?

"Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define. With Prometheus, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race".

Not a bad song sha.

PIL (Pain Is Love) 2 is out in January, 2012.

Fresh - Flo-rida Ft. Sia: Wild Ones

You know what, Flo-rida's music tends to sound the same- loud, dance and techno-centric. That said its usually fun, and that I don't mind; I still love Good Feeling. Sometimes you have to take something for what it is. So what say we just rock out to the Wild Ones?
Nice feature by Sia.

New Vid - Drake Ft. Lil Wayne & Tyga: The Motto

Love this song. Had it on repeat in the car plenty. And now Drake drives around rapping in the video.

Erm whats Lil Wayne wearing on his feet??

New Vid - Sneakbo & Stylo G: Call Mi A Naija

With lyrics like "my uncle is a 419er" you would be forgiven for initially rolling your eyes at this track, but it does deliver in the club banger department. British Nigerian Sneakbo upgrades a hot dancehall track by Stylo G with uk rap and naija yarns. Won't be surprised if i start hearing this out and about here in Naij this Christmas.

Arkethesus this one is for you.

Props to Soulculture.

Random - Toddler Freestyles In Gibberish

How awesome is this toddler?! Future rap star in the making you know! Lol.
He has the presence, rhythm and dope flow in the bag, all thats left is umm some English. Hes definitely got the music in him.

That said, this shows how kids are so easily influenced by whats around them.

Coming Soon - Wrath Of The Titans

Wow I wasn't expecting a second titans movie but meh this is Hollywood we are talking about. I guess they are going the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' route as this looks just like the first one. Action, action, hot action babe, monsters galore, more action. Well it should make for fun popcorn blockbuster viewing if anything.

Coming Soon - The Dark Knight Rises

We had the cam recording for a hot minute, and now heres the good quality trailer for next year's epic conclusion to Chris Nolan's Batman series. "Theres a storm coming Mr Wayne". Hot stuff.

Spotlight - Ese Peters

Now I love to hear this type of Naija music. I'm a big fan of guitars, acoustic arrangements, and soulful, heartfelt songs. I usually get this from the Western alt/indie scene so its quite refreshing to hear some home grown talent.

I first heard Ese at Taruwa* where he played a beautiful rendition of Edelweiss from The Sound Of Music. After his performance dude forgot his guitar pick and I had to chase after him to give it back. Maybe I should have kept it and put it up for auction when he blows up. Lol.

Ese is a self taught guitar player, singer, and song writer. He cites John Mayer as one of his musical influences, and with his command of the guitar and heartfelt lyrics its no surprise.

He just dropped his self produced EP called 'The Acoustic'; an independent project that is his first body of work to be released to the public. The Acoustic is filled with some brilliant stuff; from the romantic 'Gone' with its infusion of pidgin english, to poignant 'Walk Away', and 'Stay With Me' with its angsty love declaration (TV Show soundtrack right here. I called it first!). Ese also does a good job of covering Darey's The Way You Are and Asa's Baby Gone.

Good to see Ese Peters joining the fold of Asa, Bez, and TY Bello, providing soulful 'alternative' music in Nigeria.

Listen to some of the songs below.
To hear the rest you can download Ese's The Acoustic EP HERE.

You may notice the absence of certain tracks and what not, do feel free to share your top 10 or top 5 in the comments box.

Coming Soon - The Dark Knight Rises

I'm not a big fan of cam trailers but The Dark Knight Rises is 'That' film that will shut down summer 2012, and i just had to watch this shoddy trailer that popped up online. If your aren't a movie geek amped up for this movie like me then you can give this a miss. When a better copy comes up i will definitely be putting it here. If you can't wait to see what Bane and Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman) look like then click away. Lets see how long it stays up before its plucked off the net.

Check out the trailer after the cut.

Coming Soon - The Expendables 2

The Expendables are back. This time with added classic action stars and more umm action! Lol. Enough bad ass mofos! Nice. Great to see Chuk Norris joining the cast.
This is just some escapist action really. If you've seen the first one then you shouldn't be expecting some meta mind boggling stuff really.

Plot wise "Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Lee Christmas (Lee Statham), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren),Toll Road (Randy Couture) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) -- with newest members Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) and Maggie (Yu Nan) aboard -- are reunited when Mr. Church (Bruce Willis) enlists the Expendables to take on a seemingly simple job. The task looks like an easy paycheck for Barney and his band of old-school mercenaries. But when things go wrong and one of their own is viciously killed, the Expendables are compelled to seek revenge in hostile territory where the odds are stacked against them".

New Vid - 50 Cent: Off And On

Young Miss Smith gives us the video for her fun follow up to 21st century girl featuring the always animated Nicki Minaj.
