Spotlight - Duno

We have some B-Town talent* for our very first Naija Spotlight, My Personal Person Duno!

Real name Osa Akpata, Duno is a Hip hop artist, Poet and music industry consultant. I first met him under ‘suit wearing’ business (non-music) related circumstances, and I’ll have to say he is a rather talented and dedicated guy.

Duno recently released his EP ‘The Initiation’, with fun party track ‘I Like’ as the first single. According to Duno the name of the EP refers to “the end of an existence on one level and ascension to the next; it is my rebirth to a new role in the society as an artiste”. I totally understand.

On his EP he hops from conscious, reflective tracks to upbeat anthems, showing lyrical and musical range. One of my favorites’ is party track Get Down. Here Duno gives a bouncy vibe, assisted by ‘Sanchez’ and ‘Prince Dramin’. The beat is very Chiddy Bang, and you know how I feel about Chidera and Xaphoon. ‘The reason’ is another standout, showing Duno’s lyrical skill. Nice job by featured artist ‘Nosa’ as well. I was pleasantly surprised with the African chant in ‘Beautiful Sunny Day’. It kinda came out of nowhere. Lol.

The Initiation is right on time for the Christmas shows, parties, and barbeques. Heres hoping it gets good circulation. Its always nice to see talent coming out of other parts of Nigeria.
